The joint meeting of the Special Standing Committee on Environmental Protection and the Special Standing Committee on Equality, Youth and Human Rights, chaired by the President of the Special Standing Committee on Environmental Protection, Dr. Dionysia – Theodora Avgerinopoulou underlined the crucial role of women in environmental policy and administration, as well as the challenges faced by women leaders in the field of sustainable development. Women are at the forefront of environment and climate struggles, despite being underrepresented in decision-making positions. Studies show that their participation can make a difference in favor of sustainable development. It is therefore vital to empower women in this area. Ms. Avgerinopoulou also referred to the important work of the LWO network. The Committee was graced with the presence and speeches of 11 distinguished women leaders, who briefed the Members of the Committees on the challenges and perspectives of women’s leadership in environmental affairs.
